I know some of my peeps who missed out on a great night yesterday !!! soporifique!

...Please, don't let it happen twice ! ... Yesterday was the grand opening of MelloMondays (Giving a stage to talented and up and coming poets in the heart of Miami). The first guest was none other than the revolutionary hip-hop duo DEAD PREZ. The setting was nice and cool...Reminded me of that joint in the movie "Love Jones". Brothaz and sistaz were definitely on a positive vibe and it felt great being part of such a gathering (for my kréyòl peeps, Sista FLO and Mecca were representin' that night too).... I didn't get a chance to remember all the names but the house was brought down a few times and poetry by a poet named Karima (great positive activist piece) and another asiatic cat (good mix of comedy and in-your-face material) stuck out.
Then it was time for Stic and M-1 a.k.a. DEAD PREZ ! And these brothaz definitely did their thing ! Getting at us with their poetry, songs, and accapella lyrics like we knew they would. They tried to close the act with their routine american flag burning, but somehow this flag would not burn that night...Martin Luther King Jr. (it was MLK day, remember ?!) was probably watching over us and calling for "get alongless"...For My blackStarIsland crew....I'm out !

There was this man in front of the stage providing faya for M-1's spliff! lol

Next monday, it's an international night!

ok.. promise, I will be there next time.
I love this kind of stuff.. but when you have class the next day, poetry won't do when you will try to explain to the teacher that you are falling asleep..
But, definitly, next time, I will be there..I don't want to die not knowing that.
